Son of Michael Hawk and Elizabeth Kenny Hawk. He was one of 10+ children living in Butler county Ohio. He married his love of his life, Sarah Elizabeth Allen on 4 Nov 1860 in Shelby county, Illinois. On 5 Nov 1861 he joined the F Company of 53rd Regiment Ohio. In 1863, he and his brother David, were part of the Richland Illinois 10th regiment. He was discharged 9 Aug 1865. After their first son, John M. was born in Shelby county, Illinois, they traveled to Missouri to the county of Newton. Three children joined the family, Charles David, Dora Comfort, and Holly Franklin. A large group of the Hawk family settled in and around Newton county. Eli passed away on 16 Mar 1906.
