Services for Lola Marie HUGHES, 82, of Clarence were held Saturday, August 21, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clarence Christian Church in Clarence. David Johnson officiated. Burial was in the Haggers Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were directed by the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Chapel in Clarence.

Mrs. HUGHES died Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at approximately 6:15 a.m. at Clarence Care Center in Clarence.

She was born on September 11, 1916, the daughter of Adam BENHART and Myra Frances BARKER SCHILLIE, in Pure Air, Missouri.

On February 10, 1935 she was united in marriage to William Bennett HUGHES in Leonard. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by two children: Billie D. HUGHES of Manhatten, Kansas and Mary Jane BISHOP-HENSON of Moberly; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother: Hurley SCHILLIE of Wever, Iowa; and eight sisters: Gladys JONES of Kirksville, Alma GROVES of Macon, Wylda ADAMS of Michigan City, Indiana, Mary PLUMLEE of LaPlata, Betty KARAFF of Kansas City, Shirley BURKE of Lake Zurich, Illinois, and Reta EAGEN of Burlington, Iowa.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter: Marjorie Ann ELFRING; two brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. HUGHES was a member of the Clarence Christian Church, Alpha Delta Sunday School Class, and Clarence VFW Auxiliary. She clearked at D&B Grocery Store.

Memorials may be made to the Clarence Christian Church or the Clarence Care Center.
