NEWPORT NEWS - Gertrude Elizabeth Stead died on Wednesday, June 6, 2013 at Riverside Hospital. She was born on July 13, 1929 in the city of Hampton to James Arthur and Florence Bateman. Gertrude was a longtime employee of the Newport News Library System and a member of the VA Genealogical Society. She was also a volunteer for the Patrick Henry Airport Information Center. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill Stead, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Terry Stead and wife, Cheryll, and Michael Stead; three grandchildren, Christopher Stead, Tara Stead, and Cody Stead; and one great grandchild, Trevor Stead. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 at Weymouth Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
