WATERBURY — John Atwood, 66, of Meriden Road, passed away peacefully at Saint Mary's Hospital on May 30, 2013, after a brief illness.

John was born Feb. 27, 1947, in Waterbury, the son of the late Harry George and Alice (Green) Atwood. He attended local schools and proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as a toolmaker at Winchester Electronics for many years and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He was a member of the Oakville VFW post 7330.

Among his survivors are his daughter, Theresa Atwood of Waterbury; his brother, Harry G. Atwood of Calif.; his sister, Loretta "Hope" Manford of Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and cousins including Larry Regan who was like a brother to John.

A memorial gathering for Mr. Atwood will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Eastside Memorial, A Casey Family Funeral Home And Tribute Center, 1987 East Main St. at Southmayd Road, Waterbury, from 9 to 10 a.m. Graveside services and rites of committal will follow in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown.
