Scott Edward Banks May 31, 2013

Scott Edward Banks, age 78 of Barnardsville, died Friday, May 31, 2013 at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville.

Mr. Banks was born March 27, 1935 in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He had an extremely strong work ethic and was well known for his generosity in sharing fresh produce with his family, friends and neighbors. His sense of humor and the fact that he "never met a stranger" won him countless lifetime friends. An avid entrepreneur, he founded Scott Banks Trucking, Inc. in 1956. His business grew to include Banks-West Investments, a property development group, and Scott Banks Farms in Barnardsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed M. and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Scott Banks, also a brother, Frazier Banks and a sister, Joyce Banks.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn "Tillie" Dillingham Banks; daughter, Lemona Banks Ledford and husband John of Barnardsville; sons, Scotty Neal Banks of the home and Kirk Edward Banks and wife Marcie of Fletcher; sister, Leora Shope of Shelby; brothers, Blaine Banks and wife Betty of Barnardsville, Mack Banks of Mohawk, TN, Parks Banks and wife Carol of Barnardsville, and Fred Banks and wife Ruth of Midway, TN. Scott loved and adored his two granddaughters, Cecelia Ann Banks and Candace Michelle Banks. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville. His cousin, Rev. Burl Ledford and Rev. Richard Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence.
