Nelson J. Huber ws born a son of George and Fanny (Riegel) Huber, in Catawissa, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, November 23, 1840 and came to Michigan with his parents when he was thirteen years old and has been a resident of Marcellus Township ever since. At that time the country was new, and he assisted in clearing the ground where the Village of Marcellus now stands. At the age of 25, he was united in marrige to Frances Vandercook. For several years he was an active business man of this place, engaging in the dry goods business and was identified in many ways with the early history of the town, always standing ready to do his share to promote its welfare. In later years he had traveled in different parts of the United States and Canada in the interests of a manufacturing firm with who he enjoyed the distinction of being one of their best and most trustworthy salesmen. His health failing, he has for some time been unable to continue his work, much of the time being confined to his home where notwithstanding his failing health, he passed away very unexpectedly Monday forenoon, January 3, 1910 at the age of 69 years, 1 month, and 11 days. Mr. Huber was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge, F. & A. M.; also of the Royal Arch and Eastern Star Lodges and was conspicuous on account of his amount of enthusiasm always show in the work. He leaves to mourn their loss; a loving wife, Frances; one son, George M. Huber of Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Allie) Beebe of Marcellus and Mrs. Jessie Hill of Porter; four brothers, Loren P., Kersey, Alfred and William Huber; two sisters, Mrs. Ransom (Lucy) Butler of Mesick and Mrs. Isaac (Margaret) Bliss of Flowerfiel Township. A sister Mrs. Benjamin (Mary) VanValkenberg preceded him in death in 1894 and a brother, John Huber, in 1885. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church and burial was in Bly Cemetery.
