McPHERSON - Clinton W. Mowbray, 83, died July 30, 2006, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson.
He was born Dec. 17, 1922, in McPherson, the son of Walter and Gladys Ava Pancost Mowbray. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1941. A resident of McPherson most of his life, he was a farmer, truck driver and retired from CertainTeed Plastics as a pipe cutter after 16 years.
He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 2715, McPherson, was a life member of the Oz Bicycle Club, Wichita, and served on the VFW Military Honor Team for a number of years. The Mowbray Metric Bicycle Tour was named in his honor. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Central Europe and the Philippines.
Survivors include: a daughter, Luanna Marie Mowbray, Carnegie, Pa.; a brother, Duane, McPherson; and a sister, Ava Chamberlain, Falls Church, Va.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Unruh, Marjorie Blair and Anna Belle Barnes.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in McPherson Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael J. Fibranz presiding, military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post No. 2715 and the American Legion Post No. 24. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be sent to VFW Post No. 2715, Oz Bicycle Club, Mowbray Metric Bicycle Tour or Shiloh Manor, all in care of the funeral home.
