As we stated last week, Peter Smith died at the home of a daughter in Manchester and at his request undertaker W H Gleim went with a team and brought the remains to Arlington where the funeral services were held in the Christian Church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by the paster Elder Hanna.
Mr Smith was an old resident of Arlington and was well liked and highly respected by all who knew him. He has been in poor health for some time and his death has been expected for some time. He had not lived long in Manchester. The funeral was largely attended.
Peter Smith was born in Canada, near Montreal, November 22, 1829. Died Manchester, July 19, 1905, aged 75 years, 7 months and 19 days.
When about four years of age his parents moved to Ohio where he grew to manhood. On January 1, 1851 he was united in marriage to Lavina Smith. In 1857 they moved to Fayette County, Iowa, where they have continued to reside. On July 10, 1901 the faithful wife died. To them had been born nine children, four sons and five daughters, of whom eight are still living to mourn the loss of their father. Three sons and two daughters are present today.
The children are Julie Orreno Derflinger, who passed away in January 1875; Rhoda A Wiltsie; Frank Smith; May Perkins; Teressa Van Horn; Orrin Smith; Bert Smith; Willard Smith and Winnie Rawson.
Internment was made in the Taylorsville Cemetery.
