Born and died in Sciota Township.

Joseph was the seventh of eleven children of John W. Hainline and Mary DeVerre. He married Virginia Ann Griffith on 26 Nov 1862 in McDonough County. They had four children.

Joseph served as a private in Company I, 124th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War.

"Joseph Hardin Hainline died at his residence in Sciota Twp. on Jan 14th, aged 45 years. Born in Sciota Twp.; parents moved from Ky. to Sciota 46 years ago. The deceased was their first child born after coming to Illinois and the first white child born in the Sciota Twp. He served with Co. I 124th Ill Inf. in the Civil War. In 1868, he married Miss Virginia A., daughter of James D. Griffith of Emmet Twp. They had 4 children: 3 boys and a girl, all of whom survive along with the wife...."
