Boron -- Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Montecito Memorial Park for Jay Akers, 70, of Boron, who died Feb. 26 at Edwards, Calif. The Rev. Dean Petrie of the Boron Bible Church will officiate.

Akers was born Nov. 17, 1917 in Cruse, Okla., and came to California in 1945. He lived in Redlands and San Bernardino before moving to Boron in 1957. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 14 years and for U.S. Borax Co. for 27 years, retiring in 1984. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1937 to 1945 and was a member of the Boron VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Frances, who he married in Topeka, Kan., on Nov. 16, 1940; daughters, Patricia Plummer of San Bernardino, Jaynice Jacobs of Brookfield, Mo., Nannette Renner and Sharon Lindburg, both of San Diego, and Beverly Leach of Boron; brother, Charles of San Bernardino; two sisters, Norma Leibrock of Desert Hot Springs and Ila Brooks of Columbus, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
