Dr. Caldwell was born on September 25, 1922, in Concord, NC, the son of the late Lula Jay Harris and Robert Olin Caldwell. He is predeceased by six siblings.
Baxter attended public school in Cabarrus County and received his undergraduate degree at UNC-CH. He received his D.D.S. degree at the Medical College of Virginia.
He served in WWII as a captain in the Army Air Corps. He flew supply missions in Europe. He was stationed in Waco, Texas, where he met and married his wife on May 24, 1944.
Baxter was a charter member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, a member of the Greensboro Rotary Club, and the Greensboro Country Club. He loved the NC Coast and the NC mountains and he enjoyed being outside fishing and hunting. He loved to travel and he loved his Tar Heels.
Baxter opened his dental practice in Greensboro in 1951. He retired after 40 years and had great regard and affection for his patients.
Dr. Caldwell is survived by his wife; daughters, son, ten grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Baxter Caldwell had a great love of life and was bigger than life to those who knew him. He was a force to be reckoned with yet generous and kind. To him, life was all about family and friends. His family thanks all of his wonderful caregivers at Vera Springs and especially Felicia Williams. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice. PAID FUNERAL NOTICE
