JACOB MAURER DEAD
On Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Jacob Maurer wended his way from time to eternity and is now at rest. He had been suffering with a complication of diseases for the past few years but was able to be up and around most of the time.
He was born March 18, 1828. Born as a farmer, he followed this vocation all his life, moving from his farm in Jackson township, Snyder county, to New Berlin about two years ago. By hard labor and strict economy, he has amassed a handsome fortune.
Mr. Maurer was married twice. His first wife was Christianna Benfer, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Benfer. This union was blessed with four children, 2 boys and 2 girls, three of whom survive the father. These are Martin, living near Kratzerville; Maggie, married to Calvin Moyer, residing about a mile southeast of town, and Mary, of this place, married to Henry Moyer, deceased.
His first wife died Aug. 8, 1894, aged 75 years. In 1896, Mr. Maurer married Mrs. Sarah Dunkleberger, who survives him. He is also survived by one brother, Peter, who is the youngest in a family of eight, three girls and five boys. He was aged 62 years and 6 months. The funeral will take place tomorrow at ten o'clock. The religious services will be conducted in the Reformed church by Rev. S. S. Kohler.
