Sarah M. Spafford was the daughter of Job and Hannah (Chipman) Spafford. She married Fitch Chipman May 21, 1808 in Tinmouth, Vermont. He was her cousin, son of Dr. Lemuel and Asenath (Fitch) Chipman. Sarah and Fitch had the following children:

1. Maria
2. Lemuel
3. Samuel
4. Sarah (M. 1839 to Alex Montague)
5. Susan (M. 1840 to Cyrenus Abbott)
6. Adelaide
7. Benjamin Franklin (M. 1858 to Lucy Ann Ray)
8. Frances (M. 1856 to Isaac C. Swift)

She died in Unadilla, Michigan Jan. 15, 1864.
