An Interesting Autobiographical Sketch of the Deceased
Nashville in the Early part of the Century.
The venerable Nicholas Hobson, whose death was announced yesterday morning, died at the residence of his son-in-law, Col. F.P. Cahill, about two miles from the city on the other side of the river, at half past one o'clock a.m., Tuesday. He had been in a sinking condition since last August, and, from his advanced age, little hopes were entertained of his recovery. He met death with a Christian-like calmness, and retained his faculties to the last. His wife died something over a month ago. He leaves three children, a son and two daughters. One daughter married Col. F.P. Cahill, and the other Judge E.H. English, of Little Rock, Ark., the present Chief Justice of that State. The son, George Hobson, resides in Edgefield.
Mr. Hobson was also connected with the families of Gen. Granville P. Smith, Col. E. W. Johnson, and Maj. R.C. McNairy. He was widely known throughout the state, and no man had more friends. Everybody loved "Uncle Nick Hobson."
The funeral will take place at half past ten o'clock this morning, in McKendree Church, Dr.s McFerrin, Summers and Hanner officiating. Dr. McFerrin will preach the funeral sermon, and the remains will be interred in the family lot at Mount Olivet.
