Orangeburg - John Heath Davis, 67, of Pine Hill community, Orangeburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, at Double Branch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Fanning and the Rev. Duane Woosley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Born in Orangeburg, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Grover Heath Davis (Grace). He was a member of Double Branch Baptist Church in Pine Hill community. He graduated from North High School in 1964. He served in the Army National Guard from 1967 until 1972 and was honorably discharged. John was a well-respected and successful local race car driver who began racing at the age of 17. He participated in many Orangeburg Speedway and Edisto Raceway events. His passion for vehicles led John to start his own automotive repair business, John's Car Shop, which he owned and operated for more than 40 years. He was an avid Clemson fan and enjoyed spending weekends with family and friends supporting the Clemson Tigers. John also had a flair for adventure, which was evident in many of his hobbies, including skydiving, water skiing, motorcycles and remote-control flying. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Gleaton Davis of the home; sons Justin Heath Davis (Chandal) of Greenville and Jonathan Lindsay Davis of Houston; brother Troy Davis (Sarah) of Bossier City, La.; sister Patsy Miller of Lilburn, Ga.; sister-in-law Carolyn Davis of Neeses; brother-in-law Troy Besseche of Auburn, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Idalia Eubanks, Faye Howse, Carol Besseche and Judy Fanning; and brothers Bill Davis and Bruce Davis.
