Ligouri (Doan) Francis Hevern graduated from High School at Columbus College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Columbus College was a Catholic boy’s school built in 1921. Columbus College closed in 1929. Land and buildings were purchased by the federal government during WWII and became the Sioux Falls Veteran’s Hospital in the 1940's.

Hevern, Machinist Mate 3/c who has been visiting in the home of his mother, Mrs. Jennie Hevern, left Friday for the east coast.  His wife and children of San Francisco, California, are making an extended visit in the Hevern home here.  Seaman Hevern has been transporting troops from Europe.

Francis (Doan) L. Hevern died December 16, 1984 in his Tiburon, California home.

Mr. Hevern was born in Rock Valley, Iowa, January 31, 1908. He attended High School in Columbus College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated in 1925.

He farmed a number of years in Rock Valley, then moved to Tiburon, California and married Mary Jane Tracy of Larchwood, Iowa. His wife preceded him in death August 16, 1955.

He served in the navy during World War II. Mr. Hevern was a founding father of the Tiburon little league. He retired from Pacific Telephone after 30 years of service.

He is survived by two sons, Francis Edward Hevern of Tiburon and Joseph Hevern of Truckee; two daughters, Jennifer Lenhart and Julie Eberhardt of Truckee; two brothers, Gerald and William of Rock Valley and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was said at 9:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Hilary’s Catholic Church in Tiburon. A rosary was recited at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Russell and Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley.

The family prefers memorials contributions to go to Hospice of Marin.
