Lon graduated Dierks High School where he made All-State in football his senior year. He attended SAU college. He worked for almost two years for the FBI in Washington, DC. He retired after 33 years from Briar Plant as a shipping foreman. He enjoyed coaching Little League baseball. One of his favorite past times was "wheeling and dealing" in the cattle business. He was an avid sport's fan, whether watching them on tv or supporting the local teams. For the last several years, he spent many hours playing cards and dominoes at the Senior Citizens Center. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Junior Young and Doyle "Bunk" Young.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sara (Haynes) Young of Nashville; his children, Billy Shofner of Nashville, Todd Young and wife, Marcie of Andrews, TX, Tammy Bowden and husband Duane of Nashville, and Karen Shofner of Little Rock; five grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Brooke and Brady Bowden, Nick, Noah,
and Noelle Young; one sister, Jean Runge and husband, Bob of Hurst, TX; and one sister-in-law, Helen Young of DeQueen. A host of nieces, nephews, and special friends also mourn his passing.
Services will be on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Nashville with Bro. Billy Dawson and Bro Glen Green officiating. Burial to follow in Restland Memorial Park under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church or the Christian Health Center.
