"M. J. Barlow, of our town, died last Saturday evening and was buried Monday by the Odd Fellows and G.A.R. Quite a large delegation accompanied the remains to the last resting place."

Matthew James Barlow was the son of Alfred Hinton Barlow and Elizabeth Gibson. On July 25, 1856, he married Elizabeth Alexander in Neosho, Missouri. During the Civil War, Matthew James Barlow served as a private in Company M, 9th Kansas Cavalry. Initial confirmation of his burial in this cemetery was provided by the Kansas Historical Society, followed by survey of cemetery.
