MRS. PETER BUOL DIES AT HOME IN GREENFIELD

Had Lived In Wabasha County Since The Early 60's

Mrs. Peter Buol, 81, one of the well-known pioneer women of Wabasha County, passed away at her home in Greenfield Township at the hour of 7:20 o'clock Saturday morning, November 5th. Death followed a paralytic stroke. On February 10th this year, Mrs. Buol suffered another more severe stroke, and since that time was confined to her bed until her death.

Mrs. Buol was born Louise Birkley at St. Louis, Missouri, January 22, 1857. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Birkley, natives of Germany, but who emigrated to America in 1858 locating in St. Louis, Mo., where her early years were spent. In the year 1860,when three years of age she came with her parents to Wabasha County settling in Greenfield Township.

On December 10, 1883, she was united in marriage to Peter Buol who was one of the leading farmers of Greenfield Township, and was at one time recognized as the outstanding breeder of Brown Swiss cattle. The Buols were among the highly successful families of Wabasha County.

Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Buol took up their residence in Pierre, South Dakota, where they lived for eleven years. Returning to Wabasha County they rented the Salzman farm in Greenfield Township where they lived until 1898. They then bought 160 acres in section 16, Greenfield, on which farm they erected most of the buyildings. In 1919 Mr. Buol sold the farm and bought one in secton 15, Greenfield Township which has been the family home since.

Mr. Buol's death occurred on October 10, 1933 at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing.

Mr. and Mrs. Buol were the parents of seven children, Rose, Mrs. E. G. Ballard of Stewartville; Lorenz of Monroe, Wisconsin; Bartley of Kellogg; John A. of Los Angeles, California; Dorothy, Mrs.C. E. Rutz of Wabasha; and Chris and Louise Buol at home.

Mrs. Buol was a pioneer mother who reared a family that has been a credit to the community in which they live. She was always devoted to her family and her home and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances.

Funeral services were held from the Trinity Reformed Church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Jason Hoffman officiated. The pallbearers were F. T. Wacha, H. E. Binder, Otto Meuer, Lian Florin, John Zierdt and Ralph Walker. Interment was in Riverview cemetery.

Friends and relatives from out of town were: Mrs. Bertha Zahn of Brainerd, Mrs. Victor Gustafson, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Henningfield of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Hilyar of Deer Park, Wisconsin; Lorenz Buol of Monroe, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schroeder, Mr. Ed Hornburg and son, Otto, and daughter, Anna, Mrs.Caroline Marking, Mr. Jon Vernier of Alma, Wisconsin; Mrs. Carl Widmeier,Mrs. Al Lindstrom, Mrs. Ed Rudquist of Minneapolis; Mrs. Feliz Falink and son, Bob of Robbinsdale; Mr. and Mrs. George Bruegger of River Falls, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Ballard, Dorothy Lane and Clara Wodele all of Rochester, and Mr. and Mr. F. O. Ballard and son, Bob of Stewartville.
