Chico Enterprise Record, Saturday, November 27, 1948: "Pioneer Resident of Butte County Dies at Oroville. Augustus Bethard, lifetime Butte County resident, died in Oroville Friday evening of a heart condition from which he has suffered for the past few years.

"He was born in Butte County, January 5, 1879, and has made his home at Clear Creek where he owned a ranch most all of his life. Besides ranching he was engaged in well drilling for a period of 13 years at which time he lived in Durham.

"In 1908 he married to Evelyn Cole, who survives him. He is also survived by seven children, Mrs. Myra Sciligo, Wesley, Melvin, Otis, Myron, Wallace, and Mildred Bethard; one brother, Arthur Bethard of Woodland; and five sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Wyatt of Therolite [sic: Thermalito], Mrs. Frances Brown of Folsom, Mrs. Rose Bagley of Grass Valley, Mrs. Ruth Brown of Rackerby and Mrs. Isabelle Edmiston of Oroville.

"Funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Huddleston Funeral Chapel, and the interment will take place at the Clear Creek Cemetery."
