From Savannah, Ga morning news dated November 02 , 1940:
The funeral of John Richard Hutson, who died yesterday morning at 11:55 o'clock at his residence, 145 East Broad Street, after a short illness, will be held 11 o'clock tomorrow morning at the Bull Hill Methodist Church in Bluffton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Bluffton, he is survived by six daughters, Mrs. M.F. Murphy and Mrs. Tracy Maddox of Augusta, Miss Idell Hutson, Mrs. D.L. Zipperer and Mrs. B.E. Beach of Savannah, and Mrs. A.C. Hoover of Estill; four sons, Luther Hutson of Manchester, Daniel Hutson of Northampton, Mass., Harry Hutson of Savannah and Lewis Hutson of Bluffton; three sisters, Mrs. F. H Resler of Denver, Colo, Mrs. George H. Crosby of Savannah and Mrs. J. B. Simmons of Levy, SC; six brothers, C. W. Hutson, J. W. Hutson and E.R. Hutson of Charleston, Sam Hutson of Charleson, P.H. Hutson of Hardeeville and A. J. Hutson of Levy; fifteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
