Tyson was a male tan and white purebreed American Pitbull Terrier. My husband and I acquired him with a dual purpose: as a family pet and for protection of the house and its premises. He was barely six weeks old when we got him. As a pet, he was very affectionate towards us, frequently even sleeping with us in our king-size bed. As a guard dog, the mere presence of a 90-plus pound Pitbull was more than enough to keep crooks and robbers away from the house. In early 2001, we had to search for a new house. Unfortunately, none of the landlords wished to rent to us because of the ill-fame of the Pitbulls as attack dogs. The animal shelters in our area weren't taking Pitbulls, and the only people who were willing to adopt him wanted to use him in illegal dogfights. For these reasons, we decided to have him humanely euthanized.
