She married Eric Gentry in 1936, who preceded her in death in 1959. She later married Garland Adams in 1962, and he preceded her in death in 1973. Mary owned and operated Gentry's Flower Shop and Adams Flower Shop. She belonged to Florist Telegraph Delivery Services, Teleflora and Lubbock Florist Association. She was District Representative for F.T.D., and served as President of Lubbock Floral Association. She co-owned The Smart Stout Shop for 27 years. She formerly belonged to American Business Women's Association, Pythians Sisters, United Methodist Women's Association, and Leo Gee Sunday School Class.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church where she served several years on the finance board. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Peggy Gentry; three grandsons, Rodney Gentry of Lubbock, Trent Gentry and wife Kelly of Lubbock, and Cory Gentry and wife Jill of Lewisville, Texas; three great-grandsons, Tyler and Bryce Gentry of Lubbock, and Sam Gentry; a great-granddaughter, Molly Gentry of Lewisville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Arthur Joe Gentry in May of 2001, two brothers and three sisters.
