Barbee Pitts moved to Henderson County, Tennessee, at an early day, locating about ten miles north of Lexington, where he engaged in farming until his removal to McNairy County, and afterward to Hardin County. He was a strong Democrat, a man of considerable influence, and highly esteemed. Barbee Pitts was a colonel commandant of the McNairy company, receiving his commission from Gov. Carroll. He served actively and gallantly in the Florida war of 1836.
Barbee married Felicia Wilson and they had a family of seven sons: James Alfred, William W., Burrell, Theophilus Cecil, Nicholas, Barbee, and John Calvin.
