She was born Jantye Teninho in 1883 at house nr. 514 W 16th Street, Ward 7, Chicago, Illinois, the third of eight children of the 31 years old laborer Heert [Geert] Teninho [Teninga, born in 1850 in Niezijl, Groningen, NL - died in 1921 in Chicago] and Chrigtje [Grietje, Grace] Kooijma [1851 Saaksum, Groningen, NL - 1894 Thayer, Indiana, USA], who emigrated in April 1882 from the village of Oldehove in the Dutch northeastern province Groningen to the USA. Her brother Hendrik Bouwe Teninga died on April 30, 1882 on the ship that crossed the Atlantic.

Jantje (Jennie) Teninga lived in the beginning of 1900 in Chicago as servant for the Hoffman family at 11216 Michigan Avenue in the southern Ward 34.

On August 29, 1900 Jennie married at the First Roseland Christian Reformed Church in the southern part of Chicago at the age of 17 years to the seven years older Henry Tuinstra, who had Dutch parents too.

In 1910 they lived in Chicago, 12019 Union Avenue, Ward 33, in 1920 in Ward 32, in 1930 in Watson Township, Allegan County, in the western part of Michigan, and in April 1940 in Hopkins Township, in Allegan County too, Michigan.

Her husband Henry Tuinstra died in 1945 in Hopkins Township at the age of almost 69 years, Jennie died in 1956 at the age of 73 years in Martin Township, in Allegan County too, Michigan.
