Husband of Eleanor Lee Betterton. Father of Joseph, Thomas, James, Joshua, William and Sarah.

There is no actual Betterton cemetery, only two graves that are now lost. Eleanor & Thomas were buried on land that they owned at the time. There are no headstones and no evidence of any graves exist.

The persons who now own the land have contacted me, saying that people from all over are coming and wanting to see the graves. There's nothing to see. Would you want a parade of people coming into your back yard to look?

Please respect their privacy.

"Did you know that the Big Hill across the road from Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, just across the county line in Union, has always been called Betterton Mountain. Some of the older people around there said they heard it called "Betton Mountain". It is the highest point between the Union Court House and the N.C. mountains, or so they say. It was listed on a deed of James Betterton as "The Hill".
