Her father, William Faulkner, was "a farmer living at the waterside of Londonderry." His wife was said to be Elizabeth Fanchinder.
The name Fanchinder is extremely rare but is found in a few instances as Fanchender.

Wier Family History [1866] by W.W. Wier, p.1; cited in Wier-Creekmore Genealogy [1944]) by Sarah Wallace, p.1: "David Stuart Wier--Native of So. Carolina. Born September 17th, 1805. His mother's name was Mary Withrow and his grandmother's name Elizabeth Stuart, on the mother's side. His grandmother's name on the father's side was Elizabeth Fanchinder."
This reference to Elizabeth Fanchinder attached to the 1866 manuscript appears to be the earliest reference to this name. Since David Stuart Wier's paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Faulkner Wier, it would appear someone misread "Faulkner" for "Fanchinder."

William Faulkner of Londonderry and Gortalowry (west of Cookstown) was a tenant of William Stewart of Ballymenagh. Burke’s Landed Gentry of Ireland calls him William Stewart “of Killymoon and Ballymenagh." The Faulkners owned a linen factory at Wellbrook, near Cookstown. Elizabeth Faulkner Wier's brother Hugh was the father of Sir Arthur Brooke Faulkner, M.D. (1779–1845), an Irish physician to the forces, author, and graduate of Cambridge.

Elizabeth Faulkner and Thomas Wier married about 1760 and moved to Ballynagilly in Lissan Parish (also called Lissan Lower), three leagues northeast of Cookstown, and here they died.

Thomas Wier and Elizabeth Faulkner had 4 children:
1. Nancy Agnes/Agnus Wier born c1760 (m. James Boyd)
2. Thomas Wier b.1763 (m. Mary Withrow)
3. Samuel Wier born circa 1761/1766 probably m. (Ann Nancy? or Margaret?) Hamilton, sister of Mary Hamilton Wier
4. James Wier (m. Mary Hamilton).
Mary and her sister were nieces of James Boyd.

These are the only children mentioned in the old Wier family letters.

Elizabeth Faulkner Wier died at Ballynagilla near Cookstown, County Tyrone, N. Ireland.
Samuel Wier was probably born circa 1761 or before Nancy. He apparently stayed in Ireland and inherited his parents' property. According to Hamilton family letters, James Wier's brother married Mary Hamilton's sister and never left Ireland.

Griffith’s Valuation of Tyrone (1848-64) shows only three Weirs (no Wiers) in Lissan Parish, and only one (Margaret) at Ballynagilla who could be Samuel Wier's widow, unmarried daughter or daughter-in-law:

surname first town parish county
Weir John Unagh Lissan Tyrone
Weir Margaret Ballynagilly Lissan Tyrone
Weir William Unagh Lissan Tyrone
