Mrs. Helene Avant Bailey "Nanny", 83 years of age, died Monday October 1, 2007.
Mrs. Bailey was born in Colleton Co., a daughter of the late Bill A. Avant and Nettie C. Avant. She was an active member of the Edisto Baptist Church since 1970, founder of the Cheez & Cracker Box- a non-profit food & clothing bank for Bamberg Co., retired from DSS, and a long time resident of the community.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday October 3, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at The Edisto Baptist Church near Branchville, with the Rev. Jakie Walters Officiating. Burial will be in the church yard. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:00 P.M.
Survived by her husband of 65 years, Rev. Charles R. Bailey of the home, four daughters, Bettye Foster (Tony) of Wando, Mary Rogers of Branchville, Peggy Long (John) of North Charleston, and Patsy Harrell (Tracy) of Hanahan, eight Grand Children, twenty Great Grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 6 to 9 P.M. at The Ott Funeral Home in Branchville and friends may also call at the residents. Memorials may be made to the Cheez & Cracker Box, 757 Pine St. Bamberg, SC 29003, or The Edisto Baptist Church, 4831 Edisto River Rd, Branchville SC 29432.
