Mariah (Vance nee Campbell) Coe is my children's 4th-great-grandmother. Her burial location and death date are unknown as she survived two husbands early in her life and as a widowed, older woman in the 1800s it has proven difficult to figure out where she lived and with whom. This memorial is in her honor so that she may be remembered for her strength as a woman, wife and mother and can be connected to her husbands and children until such time as her true burial location is found.
---------------
Mariah Vance was born about 1795 in either Virginia or West Virginia. She is sometimes called "Maria" in censuses. Her parents' names are unknown to me at this time. On 25 Feb 1817, Mariah married David Campbell in West Virginia or Virginia. David Campbell was born 10 Jan 1793 in either Virginia or West Virginia; his father's name was Richard Campbell. David and Mariah had three children: James Campbell (1818-1894; he married Eliza A. Sperry), Elizabeth Campbell (~1820-1885) and Margaret Jane Campbell (~1824-?). David Campbell passes away on 30 Aug 1824 leaving Mariah a widow at the age of 29 with three young children. In May 1827 in Know County, Ohio, Mariah Campbell marries Samuel Coe. Samuel was born in 1800; his parents' names were Silas & Martha (Walters) Coe. Samuel and Mariah had four children: Martha Coe (1828-1845), Maria Coe (1830-?; she married Thomas West), Isabelle Coe (1834-?) and David Vance Coe (1835-1924; he married Almira Sufficool). Samuel passes away on 17 Sep 1837 leaving Mariah a widow again at the age of 42; Mariah's seven children range in age from ages 2-19. The last time I find Mariah is in the 1850 US federal census when she is living with her three youngest children (Maria, Isabelle & David) in Morgan, Knox County, Ohio.
