HOSEA was the son of Jacob Belew and Sarah (Wilburn) Belew. He married Wilmurth Murphy on January 23, 1839, in Carroll County, Tennessee.

Hosea and Wilmurth were the parents of seven children--Larceny Emily, Jordan F., Marciana W., James Monroe, George Thomas, Jacob Aaron, and Sarah "Sallie" Belew. These were the only seven children listed in the census records.
