Jean Sloas

The funeral service for Jean Sloas of Buchanan will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Buchanan Baptist Church.

The Rev. Jack Criswell will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery at Buchanan.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Sloas, 75, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at her residence.

Born Feb. 6, 1938, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Eugene B. and Anna A. Willard.

She was married on June 15, 1956, to Ralph Clay Sloas, who died Sept. 16, 2009.

Sloas volunteered for several years at Henry County Medical Center and was a member of a Buchanan homemakers club. She and her husband circulated The Peddler, carrying it to press and delivering it. She enjoyed pontoon boat riding and loved to fish.

She leaves two daughters: Sondra (Norman) Bell of Buchanan and Laura (Tom) Sloas of Warrenville, Ill.; one son: Michael Sloas of Chicago; a sister-in-law: Carol Gillmore of Missouri; four cousins: Janice Carter and Delores Knutson, both of Minnesota, and Butch and Beverly Pfeiffer of Quinnesec, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter: Brenda Jean Sloas in March 1959; and two brothers: Eugene "Burt" Willard and Donald Hardin.
