Mr. Absher was born in Wilkes County to the late Dewey Pedro Absher and Bertha Handy Absher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lillie Belle Wyatt Absher; his brothers, Cecil, Mack, Dewey and Lydda Absher; his sisters, Ozie Adams, Josie Adams, Betty Atkins, Cora Lee Setzer and Eva Teague.
He was retired from the furniture industry and was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church. He loved gardening, flea markets and he never met a stranger. He loved his Lord.
Survivors include his son, James R. V. Absher and his wife Lesa of Lenoir; his daughters, Debbie Absher Goforth and her husband Robert of Lenoir, Sue Absher Shatley and her husband Wally of Hudson, Anita Absher Smith and her husband Jeff of Lenoir and Barbara Absher and her fiancé' Sam Chapman of Lenoir; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Wanda Absher and a beloved friend, Mable Turnmire.
The family will receive friends at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Pendry's Chapel with Reverend Raymond Spann officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matt Smith, Keith Cardwell, Don Roberts, Joey Good, Patrick Morgan, Larry Johnson and alternate Tim Adams.
The family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
