The Reverend Dr. William Tally Manson, Jr., 95, and his beloved wife of 71 years, Virginia (Winfield) Manson, 91, both of King's Grant, Martinsville, VA, passed away within hours of one another on Friday, May 3, 2013.
He was born on Saturday, June 30, 1917 in Warfield, VA., and was the son of Laura (Faison) Manson and William Tally Manson Sr.
William was Pastor Emeritus of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church of Martinsville and was a member of the Presbytery of the Peaks. He had previously served as Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC., Pastor of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church in Covington, VA., Limestone Presbyterian Church in Gaffney, SC., Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon, VA., and Forest Hills Presbyterian Church in Martinsville.
After retirement, he served as interim and supply pastor for numerous churches in Virginia. He also served as a Chaplain with the United States Army Air Force during World War II and was very active in the Army Reserves as Chaplain for 26 years and retired with the rank of Colonel.
Mr. Manson is survived by two daughters, Clare (Manson) Willey, of Flat Rock, NC., and Martha (Manson) French, of Canandaigua, NY., son, William Tally Manson, III, of Anderson, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laura (Faison) Manson and William Tally Manson Sr., sisters, Henrietta (Manson) Coiner and Edith (Manson) Harrill.
