One of the early pioneer familes coming to the Coria area to make their home were the Justice Family.

John Baptiste Justice, born in Genoa, Italy on May 20, 1837 came to Penetanguishene (which was later changed to Penetang) Canada, located on the south shore of Georgian Bay. It was a fort constructed during the War of 1812. It was a "jumping off" place for traders and fisherman. Captain Bayfied, for whom Bayfield, Wisconsin was named, was an important person in Penetang and throughout the region.

John met his future wife, Harriet Jeffrey in Penetang and they were married around 1859. They immigrated to the United States, settling in Ontonogon, Michigan, where their first child, Mary Jane was born. (Harriet appears to have had another child before Mary Jane). Other children born in Ontonogon were Lawrence John Justice, Anthony Justice, Cicely Justice, Between 1865 and 1868 the family moved to LaPointe, Madeline Island, where six more children were born: John Bernard, Andrew Stephen, Anna Marie, Joseph Henry, Harriet Agatha (born on Sand Island), and Theresa Justice (on Otter Island).

Between 1880 and 1883 the family lived in Ashland, where Lucy Stella and Francis Hevner were born.

The family were fisherman in Bayfield, and John also carried the mail from the island to Ontonogon.

In 1895, John and Harriet moved to the Coria area. John had made trips to the area on foot before they relocated. Other family members also moved to the area, bought land, built homes and farmed or worked in the mills.

There are many descendants of John and Harriet living in the Ashland County area to this day.
