According to the 1860 Cherokee County census, Miles and his brother, John, were born in Burke County, as was their mother, Christiana. Miles and his first wife, Sarah Jane Davis, were the parents of Harriett Ann, Savilla. John, Christina, Minnie, and Nora.
After Sarah Jane's death, he married his second wife, Sarah Gentry Lovingood, the widow of Robert Lovingood, on October 7,1873. Miles and Sarah lost a daughter in infancy.
