Levi Gillam was born in Carrol county, Ind., Jan. 18, 1832, died Oct. 17, 1915, his age being 83 years, 9 months. He came to Oregon in 1853, on November 8, and settled in the Willamette valley. For four years he was engaged in mining, but in the year 1856 he entered the Indian war.

On July 4, 1858, he was married to Vesta Shelley, who died in the year 1884. He settled in Yamhill county, Oregon, at an early date and lived here until 1886.

There were nine children in the Gillam family, seven of whom are living. They are Mrs. Clara G. Esson of Forest Grove, William of Tillamook, John of Carlton, C.H. of Perrydale, Mrs. Emma McCall of Garfield, Wash., Elmer of Dallas and Alva of Prineville.

From the year 1886 until 1902 Mr. Gillam lived in Nebraska, at the end of which time he moved to Oregon where he made his home with his son Henry of Perrydale until his death. He had been a member of the Christian church for many years, and was a close student of the Bible. During the last 15 years he has been an invalid, yet in spite of his intense suffering, his mind was clear, and his knowledge of the scriptures was increased by continuous study.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church on Tuesday, conducted by Rev. P.R. Burnett, a friend of the deceased for many years. Burial was in Masonic cemetery.
