George O'Brien
George O'Brien, age 85 of Osakis, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 1988 at the Osakis Community Memorial Home.
George was born on January 23, 1903, to John H. and Selma (Granlund) O'Brien in Douglas County, Minnesota. On August 14, 1937 George was united in marriage to Inez Peterson in Alexandria, Minnesota. The couple started their life together living in Evansville. They moved to St. Cloud after that and then to Osakis. George was a heavy equipment operator for McGarry's Construction, which mainly built roads. George traveled to such places as Labrador, Newfoundland and the Aleutian Islands. Once he retired, the O'Briens moved to St. Paul where George did custodial work at the House of Hope Presbyterian Church. They also spent some time in Seattle Washington, before returning to live at the Osakis Community Memorial Home since April 1981.
George belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers, the Master Mason Lodge No. 180 of Osakis, the Presbyterian Church and held a Degree of Honor.
He enjoyed playing cards and doing yard work when time allowed. He was a loving husband and father who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Inez of Osakis; one son G.(George) Thomas O'Brien of Bothell, Washington; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Betty) Hall of Lufkin, Texas and Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Miller of Longview, Washington; one stepson Robert Johnson of Pismo Beach, California; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Erwin, Bill and Henry, and four sisters: Rose, Myrtle, Blanche and Helen.


George's parents were John and Selma (Granlund) O'Brien. He was born and died in Douglas County.

George worked as a heavy equipment operator for McGarry's Construction.

He married Florence Braunschweig on January 29, 1929. Florence died on May 3, 1935.
They had two children:
Betty Ann O'Brien (Hall) 1929 – 2008
Alice Patricia "Pat" O'Brien (Miller) 1935 –

He married Inez Peterson Johnson on August 14, 1937.
They had one son
George Thomas O'Brien 1938 –

He had one stepson from Inez's first marriage to Russell Johnson named Robert Frank Russell Johnson 1924 – 1997

George is buried under the Johnson headstone with the parents of Inez to the left of his marker and Inez to the right of his marker and Russell Johnson to the right of Inez marker.
