MRS. WILLIAM A. HOLDRIDGE
Mrs. Catherine Holdridge, widow of William A. Holdridge and one of Candor's most prominent citizens, died at her home last Friday evening, aged 83 years.
Mrs. Holdridge was a native of Newark Valley. She was born there on Sept. 14, 1850, the daughter of Luther and Jane Andrews. Her parents were among the first settlers of that section and her father drove an ox team to New Connecticut, now Newark Valley, from the present State of Connecticut, when he was 18 years of age. Her grandfather was Captain Timothy Andrews, of New Haven, Conn., a veteran of the Revolutionary War.
The decedent was married on June 19, 1875, to William A. Holdridge, a prominent resident of Spencer. Mr. and Mrs. Holdridge resided in Spencer until 1903 when they removed to Candor where Mr. Holdridge conducted a hardware business until his death in 1918.
She is survived by four children, Dr. George A. Holdridge, of Foley, Minn.; Charles E. Holdridge, of Spencer; Miss Clara B. Holdridge and Mrs. Nathan Turk, both of Candor.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home. The Rev. D. Glyn Lewis, pastor of the Newark Valley Congregational Church, officiated. Burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery, at Spencer. - Scrapbook newspaper clipping, undated, newspaper probably Candor Courier.
