Constance "Connie" E. Garoutte, 71, died Thursday, May 5, 2005 in the family home on the John Bugg Ranch west of Tucumcari following an extended illness.

Garoutte was born on July 9, 1933 in Lacy, Okla. to Henry Calvin and Anna H. Bennett Croka and was raised on the family farm near Hennessey, Okla. until the family moved to Agra, Okla. where she completed high school active in basketball and scholastic clubs. After graduating, Garoutte continued her education in Business Administration at Hills Business College in Oklahoma City and became an employee of the college after graduation. She married Lloyd E. Garoutte on Oct. 4, 1953 in Oklahoma City. She worked for the Federal Aviation Agency in Oklahoma City from 1962 until 1996 in several different divisions. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Tucumcari.

Garoutte was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Croka; three brothers, Ross W. Croka, Duane C. Croka and Clyde M. Croka; a sister Merna M. Harris; two brothers-in -law, James Garoutte and Burl Bost; and a sister-in-law Doris Garoutte Taylor.

Survivors include her husband Lloyd Garoutte; one son Stephen E. Garoutte (and wife LaQuita) of Stuarts Draft, Va.; one daughter, Donna Bugg (John); two grandsons, Tyrel C. Garoutte of Stuarts Draft and Lucas H. Bugg of Tucumcari; one sister, Lorene Bost of Los Angles; sister-in-laws Marcia Croka of Park Hill, Okla., Virginia Croka of Hennessey, Okla., and Lena Garoutte of Norman, Olka.; 5 nieces, 9 nephews, and 26 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church, 823 S. First St., with Pastor Fred Caton officiating. Burial will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Park. Serving as pall bearers will be Tyrel "Ty" Garoutte, Lucas Bugg, Randy Livingston, Ryan Livingston, Vernon Garoutte, John Crase, Tom Bost and Don Yaw. Honorary bearers are J.R. Sons, Chris Sandoval and Paul Davidson.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, those who wish make donations to Helping Hands Hospice, Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund or Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo, Texas in memory of Connie Garoutte.

The remains of Constance E. "Connie" Garoutte will be in state at Dunn Funeral Home from Friday until services on Tuesday.
