EVELYN FRANCES VAN DOREN was born on April 3, 1924 in Wilcox, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Marion Francis Coy and Minnie Cecelia (Johnson) Coy. She was raised and received her education in the Gaston community, having been a graduate of the Gaston High School Class of 1942.
She was united in marriage to John Richard "Dick" Van Doren on August 21, 1946 in the Forest Grove United Methodist Church. Following their marriage they made their home in the Forest Grove community, where she had resided since.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, on February 21, 2004 in Forest Grove, after celebrating over fifty-seven years of marriage together.
She had co-owned with her husband, Dick, Van Doren Red-E-Mix in Forest Grove for forty-seven years, until they retired in 1993. Following their retirement, their son, Steve took over the plant, becoming the third generation to operate the business.
She was a longtime and active member of the Forest Grove United Methodist Church, a member of the Rebekah's, P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Grand Lodge Odd Fellows.
Among her special interests she had a special love for her grandchildren and was very supportive of their activities, especially baseball. She was an avid gardener, her specialty being begonias. Evelyn also enjoyed sewing and painting and was the co-owner of "Fashions by the Yard."
Evelyn was also preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Minnie Coy, by her husband, Dick Van Doren and her sister, Maxine Sticka.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Van Doren, of Forest Grove, Oregon; her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Tim Hundley, of Las Vegas, Nevada and her sister-in-law, Donna Mae Shelton, of Forest Grove, Oregon.
Also surviving are her four grandchildren and their spouses, Matt Van Doren and his wife, Amy, of Tigard, Oregon; Melodie King and her husband, Justin, of Tigard, Oregon; Jake Hundley and his wife, Raciel, of Los Angeles, California and Nick Hundley and his wife, Amy, of San Diego, California; her three great grandchildren, Mason and Miles Van Doren; and
Brandon King and numerous nieces and nephews.
