Wilma A. Monty, 87 years of age, of Concordia, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Mount Joseph Senior Village in Concordia. She was born on September 23, 1925 in Dederick, Missouri to Ulysses and Nellie (Kennedy) Starr.
Wilma married Leonard Adlore Monty on June 10, 1944 at Aurora at the home of the priest. He preceded her on August 8, 1989.
They lived on a farm at St. Joseph before moving to Concordia where Leonard worked for Southwestern Bell. Wilma worked for Fairmont-Foods and St. Mary's Convent. She later worked several years as a food server at USD #333. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spent all the time she could with them. For 20 years, Wilma was a leader of two Campfire Groups and served as a member of the Campfire Board. During the summers she worked for the Recreation Program, City of Concordia in Arts and Crafts. She loved crafts and took great pride in growing flowers and keeping the yard in excellent condition. She loved nature and would sit by the hour watching the birds and squirrels in the neighborhood. She had several dogs which were her constant companions at night. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary, Ladies of the Moose, Disable American Veterans Auxiliary, AARP, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed going to Widowed Friends and visiting with her neighbors.
Wilma is survived by a daughter, Loleta Deaver and husband Leon of Concordia; 3 grandchildren, Marcus Le Deaver, Matthew Shea Deaver, Latisha Ann Day; 2 great grandchildren, Keith and Ava Day; 2 brothers, William Starr and wife Mildred of McPherson, Larry Starr and wife Annette of Concordia; 2 sisters, Helen Norris and husband Jim of Norway, Jane George and husband Howard of Springdale, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Eunice Kennedy of Overland Park; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard; infant son, Raymond; and brother, Kenneth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia with Rev. Msgr. Barry Brinkman officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Clyde. Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 9 PM Tuesday, April 30, 2013 with a Vigil Service at 6:30 PM in the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice in care of the funeral home. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia is in charge of arrangements.
