Doris COLEMAN GILREATH, of the home, died Friday afternoon 28 Nov 2014, after years of living with diabetes (II) and thyroid disease.
The daughter of Stephen Daniel and Winnie Davis McKISSACK COLEMAN (both dec'd) of Fort Gaines, GA,
she was born 21 Aug 1918 in Clay Co, GA. She was a homemaker for over 61 years with her husband, James Frank GILREATH (dec'd), a native of Greenville Co, SC, having married 13 Jan 1946; and, she survived him for seven years.
She attended Limestone College. She was a former member of NSDAR and the Fellowship of Methodist Musicians.
She was a member of Jackson Grove United Methodist Church and assisted Lou Alice FLYNN TURNER in researching and compiling The History of Jackson Grove Church [c1981]. She was a long-time member of the Women's Society and assisted with MYF, Sunday School and choir programs for many years. During her later years of attendance, she and her husband provided cut flowers for the sanctuary. She has been homebound since abt 2001 when her husband suffered from a stroke.
She was predeceased by her brother Stephen Daniel COLEMAN, Jr (and his wife Eleanor KING COLEMAN) of Fort Gaines, GA.
She is survived by son James Frank "Jim" GILREATH Jr (and his wife Joan) of Travelers Rest SC, and their son Justin (& Jenny) GILREATHof Piedmont SC; and dau Winnie Barbare GILREATH WESTBURY of Saint Matthews SC, and her three children, Lawrence (& Mary Margaret) WESTBURY of Fort Motte SC, Henley (& Scottie) ELLIS of Columbia SC, & Patrick McKissack WESTBURY of Saint Matthews SC; and, 4 great grandchildren: Adjysen, Toliven & Makyla ELLIS all of Columbia SC; and Meakin GILREATH of Piedmont SC.
