Fairbury Journal-March 29, 1917
Mrs. Arnold died at her home in Fairbury, Nebraska, Sunday, March 25, 1917, at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 14 days.
She was sick but four days, death resulting from pneumonia.
She was one of the pioneers of this region, having settled on a farm on Rose Creek, south of Fairbury, in 1880 and lived in this locality since 1873.
Her name in youth was Mary A. Tucker. She was born in the state of New York, June 11, 1838. On the 3rd day of September, 1856, at the age of 18, she was married to Moses Henry Arnold, who died in Fairbury several years ago.
The young couple first made their home at Corry, Penn. In 1873 they came west, locating first in Washington county, Kans., just south of Fairbury, where they remained for seven years when they moved to the farm on Rose Creek. In the spring of 1891 they moved to Fairbury which has been the home of Mrs. Arnold ever since. They owned a comfortable home just northeast of the present city park.
On the seven children born to them only one survives, Frank Arnold of Fairbury, who made his home with his mother. All others have passed away, the last one, Fred Arnold, a few years ago, in Fairbury.
Mrs. Arnold was an active member of a number of fraternal orders in Fairbury and a regular attendant even in her old age, her cheery, friendly manner making her always a welcome visitor. She belonged to the Women's Relief Corps, De (sic as unable to read) of Honor, Rebekahs and Knights & Ladies of Security. She was also a member of the W. C. T. U., and the Baptist church.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Fairbury Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Parker. Burial was in the Fairbury cemetery.
