Harold Achenbach, age 84, of Wind Gap, died Tuesday December 4, 2007, in Gracedale, Upper Nazareth Township. Born in Plainfield Township, on February 24, 1923, he was the son of the late James and Helen Schlamb Achenbach. He and his wife, the former Ethlyn Johnson, celebrated 60 years of marriage.
He worked at Nazareth Fabricators for 43 years and he retired from Union Metal in Stroudsburg, Pa.
He was a member of Hope United Church of Christ, Wind Gap, where he served as treasurer in addition to singing on the choir. Previously he had served as treasurer at St. Peter's United Church of Christ. Harold was a member of Brothers in Harmony. He was active in Boy Scouts as an advisor and Boy Scout Leader. He also bowled in a local bowling league.
Harold served in the United States Air Force, as a Staff Sargent, during World War II.
In addition to his wife Ethlyn, he is survived by 2 sons, Michael and his wife Bonnie, Kevin and his companion Tara; 1 daughter, Roxan Greenzweig and her husband Barry; 3 sisters, Arlene Wismer of Oregon, Joan Stirewalt of California and Irene Conover of Bangor, Pa; 1 step-sister, Lorraine Singer, in Florida; 6 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by brother Willard.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 11:00am in Hope United Church of Christ, 701 Cherry Street, Wind Gap, 18091. Friends are invited to call 9:30am until the time of service on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Plainfield Cemetery, Plainfield Twsp., Pa.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Schmidt Funeral Home, 202 West Street, Wind Gap.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations may be made in Harold's name, to the church.
