Joseph "Joe" Calandro, 84, passed away at 4:17 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Joseph was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Murphysboro to Andrew and Frances (Schiro) Calandro. Joe married Lenora "Jane" (Bryan) Calandro on Sept. 24, 1949, in Murphysboro, and she preceded him in death March 16, 1993.

Mr. Calandro served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a truck driver for J.W. Ward Transfer for 35 years.

Mr. Calandro was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus 988 in Murphysboro. He also was a member of American Legion Post 127 in Murphysboro and the Teamsters Union.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Will and husband, Richard L. Will, and Mary Beth Bower and husband, Terry Bower, all of Murphysboro; ... two sisters, Nettie Boyer Graff and Pauline Tomlinson, both of Murphysboro; and dear friend, Eunice Aiken of Minnetonka, Minn.

He was preceded in death by two infant grandchildren; two brothers; five sisters; and his parents.

Burial will be in St. Andrews Cemetery in Murphysboro, with military services conducted by American Legion Post 127, VFW Posts 7190 and 2605 and Jackson County DAV Chapter 69.

Memorials may be made to St. Andrew School, St. Andrew Church or Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) Foundation, P.O. Box 353, 36 Front St., Crosswicks, N.J. 08515.
