Rebecca Calhoun
Rebecca Calhoun was born in Boone county, Kentucky, on January 14, 1835, and passed from this life on November 3, 1924, being aged 89 years, 9 months and 19 days. In early life she with her parents went to Missouri and on March 20, 1852 started for the Oregon country and arrived in Yamhill county in December of that year, where the deceased has lived ever since. The next day after her arrival in this country she was married to Charles Berry who died in 1865. To this union there were born four children, all of whom survive her.
On September 27, 1866 she was married to John C. Calhoun who preceded her to the other land on September 29, 1902.
Together with her children, John, Charley and Maine Berry and Ann Willis, there are 15 grandchildren and many of the old time pioneers who mourn the departure of the good woman.
Soon after her marriage she united with the Christian church that now worships at McMinnville and is believed to have been a charter member of this congregation. And if so she is the last of those who were present at the first organization of the McMinnville Christian church. She has ever since kept her membership with that church and passed away with faith in Him who is head of the church.
