Obituary from the Ballard Funeral Home: Roy Keith Peterson
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 am, Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church 1413 S. Union, Roswell, NM for Roy Keith Peterson 90, who passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012 in Roswell. Pastor Glenn Thyrion will be officiating.
Roy was born on December 13, 1922, in Todd County Minnesota, to George W. and Gertrude Shaw Peterson.
He attended Osakis Minnesota High School and graduated in 1940. In 1942 Roy joined the United States Army Air Corp and served during WWII and was discharged with the rank of Sargent. Roy started his employment in the Civil Service in 1949 with the Soil Conservation in Central City, Nebraska. He retired with the Bureau of Land Management in 1973 in Roswell, NM. Through his Civil Service employment, Roy worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and ASCS. He was also employed as a Real Estate Appraiser for many years.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for the past 45 years. Dad centered his life around his church. He was a greeter, usher, Sunday school teacher, MYF sponsor and served communion. Dad packed his sandwich every Wednesday to eat lunch with the Methodist men's group. Throughout the years, he has painted every wall within the church.
Roy was an active volunteer as a mentor for Washington Avenue School, took great pride as a greeter at the Roswell Museum & Art Center. He was also a member of NARFE.
He is preceded in death by his parents George and Gertrude Shaw and his daughter Susan Alden, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, ... They were married May 26, 1950 in Marquette, Nebraska. Together they had 5 children,.... He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; ... and 2 great granddaughters... Roy was the youngest of 9 children.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations are made to Trinity United Methodist Church in his memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory.
