It is believed the Reed, Walton, Shepherd, and Davis families knew each other in Mississippi and they migrated at various times based on the dates of their entrance into Texas. They eventually settled together in the Harrison County (now Panola County) area, and the children of these families married.
Although the actual burial site for Hugh and Elizabeth is unknown, it is very likely they were buried in the Old Walton Cemetery. The Shepherd property apparently was close to Iron's Bayou where George Garland Walton lived. Hugh's daughter married George's son, Park Miles Walton and it is assumed they are also buried in this cemetery.
