She was born February 5, 1926 at the family home near Darlington to Samuel Maurice and Matilda Olsen McAffee. Merle graduated from Mackay High School and took secretarial training in Pocatello, after which she worked in Richmond, California for a brief time.
Merle married John D. King in 1948. They lived on their family ranch on Antelope Creek for their entire married life of 57 years. They raised three children. Merle was an excellent cook and seamstress. In addition to helping with ranch work and homemaking, she had a passion for reading. Johnny and Merle traveled extensively in Alaska, Canada and the Northwest United States.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny; her children, Doris (Bob) Autenrieth, Pocatello, ID, Johnny L. (Jill) King, Pocatello, ID and Michael (Kristy) King, Antelope Creek; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Eugene (Shirley) McAffee and one sister, Vida (Robert) Simpson. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jack and Gerald, and a sister Nadine Jardine.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Leslie LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop David Fullmer conducting. Interment was in the Mt. McCaleb Cemetery under the direction of the Hawker Lost River Funeral Chapel.
