Eva Vernice Dyer, daughter of George Samuel Dyer and Murril Noland, was born October 29,
1920, in Twin Falls, Twin Falls County, Idaho, died March 23, 2003 in Marshfield, Wood County,
Wisconsin, aged 82 years, 4 months and 25 days, and was buried next to the remains of her
husband in the Lucas Cemetery, Hatchville, Dunn County, Wisconsin.

On October 29, 1940, Eva was united in marriage to John William Birthman, born October 25,
1911, in Dunn County, Wisconsin, son of John H, Birthman Harriet E. Archer. He and died
January 28, 1997 at Downsville, Dunn County, Wisconsin, aged 85 years, years, 3 months and 3 days, and was buried in the family plot in the Lucas Cemetery. Their four children were:

Eva V. Birthman, age 82, of Menomonie, Wis., died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wis.

The former Eva Vernice Dyer was born on October 29, 1920, in Twin Falls, Idaho to George S. and Esther (Noland) Dyer. As an infant she moved with her family to the Dunn County area. She married John W. Birthman on October 29, 1940, in Knapp. Together they farmed in the town of Lucas until 1960. Eva enjoyed being a housewife and loving mother to her children. She also worked for Lang’s Canning Factory, Schultz’s bros. and in several restaurants before she bought her own restaurant. She owned and operated Eva’s Café for almost 20 years, then retired because of ill health. In 1992, they sold their house in Menomonie and moved back to God’s Country in Iron Creek. Eva belonged to the Lucas Ladies Aid, and also cooked at the Lucas Elementary School. Besides cooking Eva enjoyed gardening, doing crafts, sewing and traveling. She has been a member of Little Elk Creek Lutheran Church for many years. Eva was a very loving person and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Eva is survived by two sons and two daughters, James Birthman of Menomonie, Thomas (Nancy) Birthman of Menomonie, Marguerite (Daniel) Skillings of Menomonie and Esther (Bennett) Ponzio of Los Angeles, Calif.; ten grandchildren, Rhonda (Richard) Hintz of Menomonie, Tim (Tracy) Skillings of Menomonie, Lexeen (Mike) Bilse of Onalaska, Cynthia (Mike) Moraitis of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Kimberly (Jody) Sekas of Eau Claire, Marci (Christian) Worthington of Big Bear Lake, Calif., Jay Birthman, Jerid (Laura) Klatt of Wilson, Ron Gerhardt of Menomonie and Kike Gerhardt of Prairie Farm; 14 great-grandchildren, Shelby and Kelsey Skillings, Hailey and Devyn Hintz, Carli and Allison Bilse, Sarah and Wille Moraitis, Torianna Birthman, Ethan Worthington, Chase, Blake and Shye Ann Klatt and Katie Pickerign; four sisters and three brothers, Irene Schultze of Menomonie, Joan (Gerald) Scheel of Menomonie, Ned (Peggy) Dyer of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Betty (Dick) Cotts of Menomonie, Helen Sachsenmaier of Menomonie, Jerry (Kathy) Dyer of Bonners Ferry and Paul (Michelle) Dyer of Downing; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and two brothers, Dale and Wesley Dyer.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Little Elk Creek Lutheran Church in the township of Red Cedar, Dunn Co., Wis. with Rev. Steve Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Lucas Cemetery in township of Lucas, Dunn Co., Wis.

Family and friends are welcome at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to Little Elk Creek New Addition Fund.
